This cow has Indian origin in the arid region of Rann of Kutch, Gujarat and it belongs to the zebuine cattle breed. Kankrej became common due, to its distinctive features which included resistance to tick fever, temperature tolerance, and a reduced prevalence of infectious abortion and tuberculosis. It is a strong milker breed, producing an average of 1738 kgs of milk per lactation and a total of 1800 kgs. This cow's forehead is long and somewhat dished in the middle, with a short face and slightly upraised nose. The color of this cow can range from grey to black. 

Kankrej Cow is often used in the agriculture sector and road transportation services. Kankrej bulls and cows were transported to Brazil around the 1870s, where they were used to establish the Guzerá breed, which was afterward among the purebreds from which the American Brahman established. The last official Kankrej census data dates back to 1977 when there were 46,000 in numbers in India.

    kankrej cow has color patterns from silver, grey, iron grey to steel black. The polls of baby calves are rusty red, but this color fades between 5 to 10 months. The forequarters, hump, and hindquarters, particularly in males, are noticeably darker than the barrel. The tail switch is black. The forehead is deep in the middle and moderately dished. The nose is moderately upturned, and the face is small. Skin covers the strong lyre-shaped horns to a greater extent than in other breeds. 

    The broad, pendulous, and open ears are very distinctive. The legs are generally well-balanced and shapely, and the feet are slim, round, and sturdy. They are both active and strong. Males have a well-developed hump that is not as solid as in other breeds. Males have distended sheaths and the dewlap is slender however pendulous. The skin has a dark pigmentation and is somewhat loose and average in thickness. The hair is soft and short.

    Bullocks are used for farm operations and road transport, and cows are excellent milkers. In lactation, the cows produce an average of 1738 kgs of milk and a total of 1800 kgs. Selected cows produced approximately 4900 kgs under village conditions.     The Kankrej is a zebuine cattle breed from India. It comes from the arid area of the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, as well as the neighboring state of Rajasthan. It can also be found in Tharparkar District, Sindh, Pakistan, under the name Kankaraj. Bannai, Nagar, Talabda, Vaghiyar, Wagad, Waged, Vadhiyar, Wadhiar, Wadhir, and Wadial are some of the other names for it. It's a multi-purpose breed that can be used for both draught work and milk production.
